Quest v68 PTC is out and data mining shows what features and improvements may be coming to Meta Quest.
FACTS
PTC version of firmware v68 appeared. VR enthusiast Luna searched the PTC update for strings showing new features.
According to Luna, the update focuses on improving the appearance of the new window introduced with v67 and “Theater View,” which lets you zoom in on a specific panel, bring it front and center, and fade out your virtual environment.
The strings show the following improvements:
- A new cursor for hands and controllers
- The Theater View panel can now be moved back and forth
- The Theater View panel now supports fade in transition mode
- The Theater View panel can now play immersive videos
- Gamepads (Xbox/Playstation) now work in the Theater View panel, making it easier to play 2D games (via Steam Link or sideloaded mobile apps)
- Many other small improvements
Also in development is what Meta calls “Seamless Multitasking.” Panels will apparently have a “pin” feature that allows windows to stick to your view and follow your head movements. This also works within VR apps.
More work suggests that Codec Avatars are coming sooner than we might think, with Messenger video calling being one of the first apps to be supported. https://t.co/S1wOdS6Mup pic.twitter.com/mzr3UCWQQj

Luna also found evidence of a user and settings tutorial for the upcoming Logitech MX Ink VR stylus, which will be released this fall.
Finally, there are plenty of new strings for Meta’s Codec Avatars, suggesting that Meta is ramping up integration. According to Luna, Messenger video calling could be one of the first apps to support code avatars.
As always, features that appear in PTC updates do not necessarily make it to the next official update. They can be postponed or canned altogether.
